About us

Our mission is to engage children of all ages and abilities in learning through imaginative play and discovery. Our vision is to be a gathering place that builds wonder and curiosity. The Children's Museum of the Magic Valley (CMMV) is an emerging hands-on children's museum to be located in Twin Falls, Idaho. CMMV will focus exhibits, programming, and children's activities on the Magic Valley's 37,000 children ages birth through eleven years. The research and concept development behind CMMV has been ongoing since mid-2018 when it was founded as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our goal is to establish a permanent, state-of-the-art children's museum in Twin Falls. The Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency (URA) entered into exclusive negotiations with CMMV for the purchase of a .50 acre lot in downtown Twin Falls on the corner of Idaho St S and 3rd Ave S. Downtown Twin Falls is the heart of our community, and CMMV is eager and committed to becoming a vital part of this historical area. Currently, we operate as a "Museum without Walls" with mobile exhibit events throughout the region while we continue to raise the funds needed to build the brick and mortar children's museum. Contact us to learn more. We worked with FRAME Integrative Design Strategies & CSHQA Architects to develop our concept designs. We look forward to our next steps as we move into our schematic design phase to work out all the details with FRAME & Laughlin Ricks Architecture. We are excited to see the magic within the Magic Valley unfold as we work together to create a beautiful museum for our children.

The right to play is a tenet of the United Nations Rights of Children. And yet, children’s playtime has decreased and the “play gap,” where affluent families have more opportunities to play, has grown. It’s clear that children can benefit if we can successfully scale play through effective network practices. So, check out Carol Tang’s (Children's Creativity Museum) article in our latest edition of Hand to Hand to learn how connecting and leveraging in inter-organizational networks can help scale programming in a way that is respectful, sustainable, collaborative, and liberating! • We have a few exciting things to announce here at CMMV. For today’s announcement we want to welcome Gabriela Peña to the CMMV Board. We are thrilled to have her join our team! She is a native of Arizona, the daughter of Mexican immigrants, and a first-generation American. Very early on in life, she learned museums were a window to many new worlds and experiences. She and her family moved to Twin Falls in 2020 for her husband’s job with St Luke Children’s; He is a pediatrician both in Twin Falls and Jerome. Gabby has loved serving every community she’s lived in, especially with organizations serving women, youth, and families, including Adelante Nuestro Futuro, a mentoring organization for Latina youth, and later the Hispanic Women’s Corporation in Phoenix. Gabby also worked as the Latino Community Liaison for a 1st tier law firm in Scottsdale. She has served on the board for Families for HoPE, Inc. and Scrubmates at Indiana University School of Medicine. While living in Indianapolis, she and her family were members of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, one of the world’s biggest and best children’s museums, and the Indianapolis Zoo, one of the largest conservatory zoos in the country. She and her family have had the opportunity to visit many zoos and children’s museums and have seen firsthand the benefits they provide to the community. Locally, she serves on the boards for CMMV and Girls on the Run. She loves staying home with her children, doing fun activities for friends and family, and sharing her culture through food and music. She is excited to bring her expertise to CMMV. Please help us welcome Gabby to Team CMMV!

  • Share your thoughts about digital children's programming in this short survey.

What role can your children’s museum play in providing digital programming and resources for your community? ACM, alongside Rockman et al Cooperative and Knology, has developed a survey as part of a grant funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), to collect information from museum members, visitors, and non-visitors about their digital programming preferences for young children. This survey builds on two years of research with children’s museum members and visitors across the United States. Museums participating in this survey will have access to the reports of survey findings, as well as breakdowns by geographic area, museum visitation habits, and other important variables. We encourage museums to share the survey with visitors via social media, email, or newsletter through December 22, 2023. Thank you for your participation! https://buff.ly/3uZyTNW? #ChildrensMuseum #MuseumVisitors #DigitalProgramming
