I bring a wealth of understanding of how to build collaborative board, relations between the board and Executive Director/CEO as well as how to support staff to elevate their performance. Services: Governance: A Nonprofit Board has a narrow, but essential role to play. Boards can provide mission clarity and supportive leadership, allowing staff to understand objectives and expectations. Boards provide support for the Executive Director and continually look to the future. I understand the nuances of how a board best serves the nonprofit, provide structural guidance for new board members to contribute, and can define pertinent governance structure from bylaw assessments to succession planning. Relations: Understanding how best to promote the values of your nonprofit and maximize employee potential is pivotal to any nonprofit’s structure or success. Driven by the job market, employees are increasingly being given more latitude with their job performance. This can lead to changes in productivity with increased pressure on the Executive Director to perform at unsustainable levels. Boards respond by overreaching in response to Executive Director burnout and drops in staff satisfaction and fulfillment. Creating a model that clarifies staff expectations, while defining Board and Executive Director roles/responsibilities is critical to achieving goals. I bring a holistic approach to staff and board relations. I encourage collaborative solutions that clarify areas of responsibility and build outcome-based success. Strategic Planning Assessment: Typically, nonprofits have a strategic plan that outlines what success will look like 3-5 years down the road. These plans are, at best, re-assessed every 2-3 years for relevance. Then they are put back on the shelf until the next review! Strategic plans need to be dynamic and have staff input to have any opportunity of providing the guidance it is presumed to offer. By assessing your current plan (or creating the outline if one does not exist) we can determine how relevant it is and if it is realistic. I work to identify what tools you have currently to successfully implement the plan and suggest how to fill the gaps in the existing organization’s capacity. I am committed to helping create a process that will ensure it provides staff and board with the practical guidance to deliver, stabilize and grow nonprofits sustainability and effectiveness. Ongoing Consulting: Many nonprofits struggle with getting from concept to implementation. Whether it is a fundraising strategy, collaborative projects with other nonprofits, governmental agencies, the private sector, new programs, staff/board transitions or increasing organizational capacity; it can be daunting. I can help serve as a short- or long-term support for the Executive Director or Board as you navigate through new or ongoing organizational goals or issues.
